双城浮云;当你停留此地

 

   我是瑛子,曾经的媒体人和记者。一个有点幽默感,有点散漫的人。我喜欢旅行,去过、写过许多国家和城市,以文艺评论的方式。而现在的我喜欢拍各式各样我觉得有特点的人、物、事老派建筑,中产焦虑,城市边缘,或人海茫茫,或形单影只。

   曾经的我滔滔不绝,奋笔疾书。但这些年,经过了一些足以改变人生的事件,我逐渐变成了一个貌似安静但思绪强烈的镜头细节控,我不再会和你聊人生什么的,却乐于叙述我的每一个镜头带来的感觉和情绪,我希望这些情绪能以具象的图像呈现出来,比如加州海滩上潮汐退后露出如预言般的神秘图案、突兀的老车,一条通向太平洋沿岸小城镇的著名高速公路,住在异乡的面目模糊的各国移民也许它们的后面,都有一个个特别的故事。

   最后,我准备引用我写的一篇关于美国著名观念摄影艺术家辛迪.舍曼(Cindy Sherman)的话来表达我目前在做的事情:辛迪.舍曼承认,我并不想让女性或者我拍的各种事物看起来恐怖,但我觉得我们传统上对的定义非常无聊。当我们越过传统观念,事情就开始变得有趣,也更有视觉冲击力——我不觉得艺术家应该过多解释他们自己的作品,我想,让作品自己说话,让人们自己去领会它们的含义。

Drift Away-When You Stay Here; I am Berry Liu, a former media person and journalist, a person with a bit of humor and somewhat laidback . I enjoy traveling and have visited and written about many countries and cities in the form of literary criticism. And now I like to shoot all kinds of people, stuffs, and things that I think have their own vibes… Like the old style architectures, middle-class anxiety, marginal stuffs in the city, a vast sea of people or just pure loneliness.

I used to talk endlessly, writing with great speed. But over the years, through some life changing events, I have gradually become a seemingly quiet but emotionally charged "camera detail controller". I no longer talk with people about life or struggle in life , but rather enjoy narrating the feelings and emotions brought by each of my shots. I hope these emotions can be presented in concrete images, such as mysterious patterns looking like prophecy which was revealed after the tide receded on California beaches, the abrupt old cars, a famous highway leading to small towns on the Pacific coast, and the blurred faces of immigrants from various countries living on foreign land... Perhaps behind those pictures , there are special stories. Finally, I am going to use a quote

I wrote about the famous American conceptual photography artist Cindy Sherman to express what I am currently doing: Cindy Sherman admits that — I don’t want women or the various things I take a picture with to look scary, but I find our traditional definition of "beauty" is very boring. When we go beyond traditional concepts, things start to become more interesting and visually more impactful - I don't think artists should explain their own works too much, I want to let the works speak for themselves and let people try to comprehend the meanings on their own.
